Improving numeracy in the workplace and at school

National Numeracy held its spring forum where the above issue was central to the debate.

There is always interesting an debate at these forums. They draw a diverse audience and typically cover all ages in the learning journey.

Catherine Paulson-Ellis of Sheaf Valley Education and formerly of BIS/DfE argued that a buoyant labour market disguises the growing problem of low numeracy. She noted that the effects of poor numeracy show themselves as a general lack of confidence and avoidance of certain tasks, masking the basic skill gap.
