The comment above is directly from the owner of a nursery. In the survey by daynurseries.co.uk, 93 per cent of people said the Department for Education should reinstate Functional Skills as an alternative qualification to GCSE English and maths for Level 3 nursery practitioners.

“This is a case of policy makers and ministers sitting in their ivory tower coming up with an idealistic policy, which sounds good on paper but in reality is crippling the sector.” Recruitment issues persist and the upcoming Government policy of 30 hours childcare entitlement per week is threatened by a lack of staff entering the sector.
