Help for stranded Carillion apprentices

Carillion, the UK’s largest employer of construction apprentices, went into liquidation on 15th January leaving the future of around 1,400 trainees uncertain.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has asked all former Carillion apprentices to get in touch so they can help them continue with their training. They’ve also called for the support of employers to take on the trainees.

FE providers are also rallying to help as many apprentices as they can, but more support is needed to ensure everyone’s qualification is saved.

Simon Cook, principal of Mid-Kent College, who ended a subcontracting arrangement with Carillion last June, said: “We take our responsibility to our local community seriously and we’re working with CITB, our local authority partners, and directly with students and apprentices who have had their learning disrupted.”
